This year sees the 70th anniversary of the formation of St Francis Bowls Club. An event to celebrate and to raise funds for the club was held on Saturday 31st August, sponsored by P&S Gallagher . Around fifty club members and representatives from Gallaghers took part in a day of fun bowls..
Our thanks to Malcolm Goodwin for the photographs
The day started with a Spyder in which everyone bowls
from around the edge of the green to a jack in the centre. Nearest the jack and winner of a generous prize donated by Gallaghers was Roger Oliver.
Twelve teams from St Francis and Gallaghers took part in a fun bowls knockout competition. In the first game woods only scored if they landed behind the jack and the second game was a version of 100 up. The two highest scoring teams competed for the trophy in a three end game with woods bowled first, followed by the jack. The winning team was Shaaron Whittaker, Gilly Bannister and Martin Chapman.
Lunch boxes were provided by the social committee, sponsored by Gallaghers.
The day was concluded by the presentation of the ABC trophy to Ann Calverley for her outstanding contribution to St Francis Bowls Club
